Tony Hughes is the UK CKM Director and a "Level 4" CKM Instructor and has over 17 yrs hands on experience in various systems and first got a taste of martial arts at the age of 10 years whilst living in Germany when his father was a serving soldier there with the British army. He did Judo under an army instructor whilst living there. It wasn't then until the age of 15 after moving back to the UK that Tony started to train and compete in Shotokan Karate in S.E London and did so for over 5 years until he moved to Surrey . After moving back to London, Tony looked at various systems and was keen to learn a no nonsence system that dealt in particular with - street self defence. This was where he was drawn to the devastating techniques of Kempo-Jujitsu close quarter combat (2 systems taught side by side). He started training in this system in May 1998 under a world renowned Jujitsu master for almost 9 years until he discovered the Israeli system of CKM. Tony is also a YMCA qualified "Teacher of Fitness training" and through his job as a London Firefighter is also First Aid and CPR trained and certified.
"From a young age I developed an interest in boxing, as my Grandfather ( a former boxer ) and my Father, were both big fight fans. As I grew older and started participating in Football and Rugby, I still continued my boxing training, for both fitness and self defence.
When I started to play less sport, I looked around at different fighting arts and became involved in Kempo Jujitsu in September 1998. I enjoyed 8 years of training in Kempo Jujitsu and attended many self defence seminars, with some of the top Martial Arts instructors from around the World.
I now train solely in Commando Krav Maga, after a friend introduced me to a local class and I was instantly impressed. I felt that CKM was far more effective and realistic than most Martial arts that I had practised and was definately the way forward. I also felt, that, if I were ever to instruct in self defence, this is what I want to be teaching. I'm now a Level 4 CKM Instructor and look forward to teaching and passing on some of the knowledge that I have gained. I also look forward in continuing my CKM training and advancing through the various levels".
Tony and Steve were awarded "Uchideshi" in their previous system by their previous Hanshi instructor. This award is only ever given to an elite group of dedicated, outstanding students that train with true Budo spirit. The price for Uchideshi is "Blood Sweat and Guts"
Despite taking part in numerous self defence seminars in the UK and abroad with some of the worlds best instructors, both agree that "Commando Krav Maga" is the most realistic, practical self defence system they have trained in with its unique training methods/concepts and believe this system is the way forward in today's ever increasing violent society due to its simplicity and effectiveness.Every system has it's own merits but anything too complicated would be very difficult to pull off under extreme stress, ie on the street in a volatile situation.
Both are the most senior Level CKM Instructors in the UK at Level 4 and were trained and certified by former Israeli Special Forces officer - Moni Aizik, the Chief Instructor and systems founder. Steve and Tony are also "British Combat Association" approved instructors.
