Tony Hughes has over 18 yrs hands on experience in various systems
and first got a taste of martial arts at the age of 10 years whilst living in Germany when his father was a serving soldier there with the British army. He practised Judo under an army instructor whilst living there. It wasn't then until the age of 15 after moving back to the UK that Tony started to train and compete in Shotokan Karate in S.E London and did so for over 5 years until he moved to Surrey . After moving back to London, Tony looked at various systems and was keen to learn a no nonsence system that dealt in particular with - street self defence. This was where he was drawn to the devastating techniques of Kempo-Jujitsu close quarter combat (2 systems taught side by side). He started training in this system in May 1998 under a world renowned Jujitsu master for almost 9 years until he began intensive training with one of the Krav Maga organisations where he achieved Instructor Level 4.He is also a former UK Director for the same organisation. Tony is also a YMCA qualified "Teacher of Fitness training" and is one of only a handful of qualified "F.A.S.T Combatives" Instructors here in the UK.
Here is what Steve Nicholson says:-
"From a young age I developed an interest in boxing, as my Grandfather ( a former boxer ) and my Father, were both big fight fans. As I grew older and started participating in Football and Rugby, I still continued my boxing training, for both fitness and self defence.
When I started to play less sport, I looked around at different fighting arts and became involved in Kempo Jujitsu in September 1998. I enjoyed 8 years of training in Kempo Jujitsu and attended many self defence seminars, with some of the top Martial Arts instructors from around the World.
I also trained in one of the Krav Maga systems, after a friend introduced me to a local class and I was instantly impressed. I felt that this system was far more effective and realistic than most Martial arts that I had practised and was definately the way forward. I attended many bootcamps where i trained and certified as a Level 4 Instructor and look forward to teaching and passing on some of the knowledge that I have gained over the years.
Tony and Steve were awarded "Uchideshi" in the previous system they trained in by their previous Hanshi instructor. This award is only ever given to an elite group of dedicated, outstanding students that train with true Budo spirit. The price for Uchideshi is "Blood Sweat and Guts"
Steve and Tony are both certified in "First Aid and Immediate Emergency Care" through their jobs as London Firefighters, and are also fully insured and registered as Self Protection Instructors with the "British Combat Association"
